Today’s Daily Prompt asks:
You need to make a major change in your life. Do you make it all at once, cold turkey style, or incrementally?
For me personally, change used to be something I hated and was afraid of. Felt comfortable being wrapped in my cocoon of the Status Quo and would keep things the same just not to rock the boat.
Maybe its age or maybe not wanting to put up with the crap that brings me down, I’ve welcomed change into my life. And go at it with gusto. Cold Turkey to me is the only thing that works for me to accomplish any change I want instituted into my life.
The latest example of that is quitting my job that I absolutely hated. The change of career and of my daily routine will be drastically challenged by these steps, but one that I welcome.
When I wanted to change my eating habits and reduce the amount of sugar, caffeine, and other things not good for me…..BAM!! Just like that just stopped purchasing and eating them; with a few minor slips with the sugar here and there.
If people in my life are not working for me, I change their role in my life. (Not always successful all the time on that one.)
The only other major change I need and want to make in my life is quitting smoking. The last time I did, I went Cold Turkey and quit for over three years. Unfortunately, I began again, but the next way is the only way for me to quit…..Cold Turkey. My hope is that change happens today since I’m down to my last cigarette and my car is in the shop until tomorrow.
So, like a Band-Aid, I just rip it off and go through any major change the only way I know how, Cold Turkey.

Good luck with the quitting smoking. I can’t do cold turkey. I have to do gradual. When I gave up smoking I had to use aids to help me. Not literally get aids
Thanks! This has been an ongoing struggle with me. But I really just don’t enjoy it and ready to give it up. So hope it works!!
If you’re ready, that’s half the battle
Very true!!
I just saw this writing prompt come through. Those of you who can get a post up so quickly on the prompt always amaze me. I need to plan, then write, then re-read, then rewrite, and so on and so on, that by the time I respond to a prompt (which I’ve only done once), it’s days after the fact.
Good luck quitting smoking! You did it once. You can do it again.
I just happen to write on the cuff, which isn’t good sometimes when I go back days later and see what I write!
And hopefully this time I’ll follow through with it. I am so ready too which will really help as well!
Oh man, i smoke too but really don’t think Cold Turkey will work for me. When i found out nicotine is more addictive than heroin I got scared. Planning to try Chantrix when I have a few days I can take off from work to get started.. good luck !!
Good luck to you too. Hope the Chantix works for you!! I’ve had friends who took it and were able to quit on it. And it stinks how addictive it is. Such a hard habit to break.
