It’s quite amusing the people you come across in your daily life. As I love to sit back and watch all the different people I may cross in a 24-hour period, it always astounds me the various personalities we come into contact with if we just really soak them all in.
Yesterday, my day started out at work in the Casinos. And I’ll tell you, they range from all different parts of the spectrum. From the cute elderly couples playing the slots together and getting their fill at the buffet. They have probably been married for fifty years and this is their weekly getaway. Then you have the ladies who you witness stepping out of the limousines with all their glitz and glamour. Acting like they are taking a stroll on the Red Carpet with their designer handbags and big-teased hair. Barking orders at the poor valet who has to meet their every wish and demand with a smile and thank-you. Knowing they will never make in one week’s salary what they will gamble on this overnight trip.
Later in the day, I step out of this altered universe, to interview for this job I hope I get. It’s with a great, well-known company, and even though it would be part-time to start, they always hire full-time from within. As I walk in, I see a different side of society. One of a company where the energy is high and the personalities are bright. They are welcoming, and when I interviewed with the Manager, it was over an hour and felt like it lasted 20 minutes. Being amongst “people” again, without the scowls and down-faces, brightened my day and I knew I could fit in with these people. Thankfully, I moved on to the next phase of a four-phase process.
And then on my hour drive today to Philly to work today, I knew I would be welcomed again by the “sour faces.” Never in my life, have I worked in an office that is so…….odd. That is the only word I can put on it. Thankfully, I work closely with a girlfriend of mine, which makes the day bring a little sparkle in it. But it is like they are transplanted “Pod People” and we are all placed together so we can figure out how to mesh together the human species. The whole office is so quiet, you can hear a pin drop….besides my girlfriend and I talking about American Idol starting next week and catching up about all our past friends and co-workers.
As soon as I get in my car for the hour ride home, I blared on my radio just to surround myself with some noise. It was a welcome transition to a hum-drum day.
But the icing on the cake was a little boy I ran into in line at the Grocery Store. He was adorable and without realizing, cut in front of me in line. Once he realized, he told me I could go next when the Customer Service representative called him instead of me. That was the least of my worries and in his childish voice, he politely told me I could go in front of him. Not being in any hurry, I told him he was fine and could go first. He had this torn pink envelope and a Valentine’s Card in his hand. He proceeded to tell the lady behind the counter that he accidentally ripped the envelope trying to get the card in and asked if he could get a new one.
And I just thought it was the most adorable thing. Here, I still have Christmas Card I needed/wanted to send out, and this little boy trumped me by buying his Valentine a card a month early. Wondering who this lucky person was that this little boy took the time to buy a card and send so early to just warmed my heart.
It was the perfect way to end the night of seeing all the different aspects of the Human Species!

What a wonderful variance of people.
They sure were!!
Great post. I totally hear you on the co-workers thing, my office is quite similar. Heartwarming post!
Thanks so much!! And co-workers can definitely make or break your day. A shame you work in the same kind of office!
Our world is vast and varied when it comes to the human condition..I find it interesting to note all I have encountered that day (such as you did) and all it takes is one shining person to level the field of oddity..
good luck on the job you interviewed for..
Yes indeed! One person can really put a smile on your face. If I could walk around with a secret camera and just film all the different people we come into, sure would be an interesting documentary! And thanks about the job interview. Have my second interview tomorrow!
