Make The Time

“Don’t say you don’t have enough time.  You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vince, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.” – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Everyday in my Inbox I receive a Daily Inspiration Quote, and this one from today just stuck out in my mind.  This quote comes from a book by H. Jackson Brown, Jr. titled Life’s Little Instruction Book.

And it has made me take action.

As each week starts, I have plans for the things I want and need to get accomplished.  Laundry has to get done, groceries have to be bought, dinner has to be made, bills have to be paid.  And in between all of that we have a job our employer pays us to go to each day.  It does not leave a lot of time to focus on the things we want to do after we accomplish the things we have to do.

The weekend rolls around and I gather my breath trying to squeeze in some “me” time.  The movie we wanted to see, friends we wanted to visit, crafts we wanted to complete, new hobbies we wanted to take up.  And as Sunday night rolls around, those items are not checked off on my list; waiting to be started or finished by the time the next weekend rolls around.  And I wonder, “Where does the time go?”

It's time I make the time for the things I want!

It’s time I make the time for the things I want!

But in all reality, I do have the time, I just don’t make the time.  I get sidetracked by checking emails, talking on the phone or getting caught up in some Reality Television Marathon of “Hoarders” or “Giulianna and Bill” on the E Channel.

Or I spent countless and precious time wasted on people or things who ended up having no consequence in my life.  So the excuses I make for myself are over.  Time is one thing I cannot get back, and it is up to me to do things that bring joy.

Make the moments in your life count!

Make the moments in your life count!

I have never been good on time management, thinking there was always tomorrow.  But tomorrow is not guaranteed, so the time is now to fit in all the things I always wanted to do.

My list for my resolutions for 2013 have already been written, and now there is no time like the present!

About A Dog With Fleas

I have had a lot of life experiences the last year that I am hoping to share with the world. I may not have made the best decisions, but my life is fluid and I am learning everyday.

  1. I managed to keep to my resolution for 2012, even though it did take me a while to get there. I promised my daughter that I would cut down on the swearing, and I have :-)

  2. It’s amazing how just a “quick check” of the email can lead to so much loss of time. One click leads to another and another and so on. Add to that all the various social medias, and hours of the day can flow by. When one is book marketing, it’s hard to find a balance between the marketing and the writing of the next one!

    • It sure does….Next thing you know, a couple hours have gone by and you wonder where the time went. Email and Pinterest is another thing for me! And I can see the predicament you must get in with marketing a book a writing your next one. Not sure where you find the time!

      • I’ve switched to working on my novel-in-progress for at least an hour before I open any social media. That’s not much time, but at least it’s something if I don’t get a chance to get back to it later. :)

  3. I think letting time just go by is my biggest fault. This is one for me to take to heart. If I do one thing different in 2013, this should be it. It would impact everything else in a good way!

  4. This was a great reminder as like you I never seen to find the time for the things that really are important to me and instead find myself wasting time on the frivolous or mundane. One of my favorite anonymous quotes is “Someday is not a day of the week.” and it’s very similar to your sentiment that tomorrow is not guaranteed to any of us. Good luck on your new year resolutions.

    • That is such a great quote you have. I’ll be sure to remember it. And it is so easy to get caught up on other things, and not make time for what you really enjoy. Hope you take the time out also to enjoy what you really enjoy. :)
